Bunbury 06/03/2021

Conditions

Rail – True
Track – Soft 5
Forecast – Max 27 degrees, partly cloudy

Race 1 – McCafe South West Maiden – 1200m – 12:12pm

11 – Fair Grace
1 – My Hidden Journey
8 – Cape Leopard
6 – Cotchin

Comment: Fair Grace is only having her first start but seems to have shown ability at her trials. My Hidden Journey has much more experience had should be fit third up. Through in the eastern states form that Cape Leopard has and you have an interesting race.

Suggested bet: Fair Grace and My Hidden Journey – each way

Race 2 – Summit Realty South West Handicap – 1200m – 12:52pm

1 – Ladies Of London
2 – Chief Archer
4 – City Circle
10 – Miss Aligned

Comment: Bosnipp (who has now been scratched) has been knocking on the door for the win. She should easily find the front from barrier one and give them something to run down. Ladies Of London is in good form and is a threat to Bosnipp (so will appreciate that scratching). The weight may just get the better of her though.

Suggested bet: Ladies Of London – each way

Race 3 – Capel Vale Winery Handicap – 1200m –1:32pm

3 – Vadette De Star
1 – Hot Zed
9 – Secret Plan
4 – Alpha And Omega

Comment: This is an incredibly even race and one where you can make a case for nearly every horse. Vadette De Star is unbeaten in her career (1:1-0-0) and beat Charleton Eddie in the process, which is good form and the reason I’ve got her on top. Hot Zed is on fire at the moment too. Don’t rule out Secret Plan and Alpha And Omega.

Suggested bet: Don’t bet, Vadette De Star – place

Race 4 – MGIB Handicap – 1000m – 2:08pm

5 – Excellent Dream
4 – Ziebell
3 – Plutocracy
1 – Gemma’s Son

Comment: Excellent Dream has won two in a row leading into this race. He’s up in class but is unbeaten over this track/distance (1:1-0-0). His consistency is another reason he’s on top. Ziebell should easily find the front and Plutocracy is coming off a win. Gemma’s Son can bounce back here.

Suggested bet: Excellent Dream, Ziebell and Plutocracy – each way

Race 5 – William Barrett & Sons Vase – 1200m – 2:45pm

5 – Charleton Eddie
3 – Weaponson
11 – Absolute
9 – Bee Quick

Comment: Charleton Eddie probably has some of the best form in this race and narrowly went down to rise star Vadette De Star. He’s unproven on a soft track and may have to use a bit of energy early on to get to the front from that barrier but he should go well. Weaponson is consistent and drops back in distance but may fall victim to the wide barrier once again. Absolute has a good turn of foot and Bee Quick will be giving them something to run down.

Suggested bet: Charleton Eddie and Weaponson – each way

Race 6 – Misty Valley Thoroughbreds Greenfields Lodge Breeders Classic – 1400m – 3:20pm

1 – Kissonallforcheeks
2 – Magical Dream
3 – Triple Missile
5 – Island Charm

Comment: Kissonallforcheeks has won at listed level and gets in well at the weights given her results. Magical Dream is coming off a win and has a great turn of foot as long as she can get out. She’s also won at listed level. Triple Missile is unbeaten in his three starts and while he’s up in class. He’s one to follow and deserves a crack at this. The distance and conditions look to suit Island Charm.

Suggested bet: Kissonallforcheeks, Magical Dream and Triple Missile – each way

Race 7 – City & Regional Fuels Handicap – 1400m – 3:57pm

13 – Pletto
1 – Living The Dream
7 – What About Moses
8 – Wild Fusion

Comment: Pletto gets bumped up to first place with the scratching of Phoneme. She’s yet to place outside of the top three (10:3-3-4) but is up in distance. Her consistency was the main thing that drew me towards her. Living The Dream has won two races leading into this one, but does have to carry 60kg. What About Moses has been improving with each run this preparation.

Suggested bet: Pletto – place

Race 8 – Amelia Park Bunbury Stakes – 1400m – 4:35pm

4 – Last Of The Line
14 – Son Of A God
9 – Dig Deep
2 – Samizdat

Comment: Last Of The Line showed a great turn of foot last start and is just a classy horse. Son Of A God is consistent and placed third at listed level last start. Dig Deep can bounce back here and Samizdat will need luck from the wide barrier.

Suggested bet: Last Of The Line – each way, Son Of A God and Dig Deep – place

Race 9 – Furphy Bunbury Cup – 2000m – 5:10pm

7 – Montelena
5 – Harry Thomas
1 – Trap For Fools
4 – Divine Shadow

Comment: It’s pretty simple, it’s Montelena’s race to lose. Every condition looks to suit, and this race does look weaker compared to last start.

Suggested bet: Montelena – win

Race 10 – TABtouch – Better Your Bet Handicap – 2000m – 5:44pm

11 – Reliable Star
9 – Antique Jewel
6 – Born To Try
1 – Marocchino

Comment: It looks to be a battle between the two cerise and white horses and it’s very hard to split them. I just though Reliable Star’s form was slightly stronger, and she does have a turn of foot. Born To Try has been improving with each run and Marocchino has placed at this distance before (1:0-1-0), but may fall victim to the barrier and weight.

Suggested bet: Reliable Star and Antique Jewel – each way

Best Bet

Race 9 – Montelena

Confidence rating

It’s not too bad this week, though the only race I’m fully confident about is race 9. Races 3, 4 and 6 are ones that I would avoid, while the rest have a few winnable chances. I’m hoping for a winning day as an owner and a tipster.
