The biggest day on the WA racing calendar is here and I’m both nervous and excited! In terms of my tips, races 3, 4 and 9 I’d avoid (and race 4 purely because there’s not a lot of form surrounding it), while races 1 and 2 are pretty even. When it comes to my horses, I can feel the butterflies starting as I write this! Masamune, who is in the WA Guineas, has ability that we just haven’t seen on the racetrack yet. Jamie Kah jumps on board and while he’ll need to bring a career best performance, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him cause an upset. For The Velvet Queen in the Railway Stakes, I think the biggest issue will be whether the track doesn’t favour horses in the back half of the field. She’ll appreciate the step up in distance and is actually unbeaten at this track/distance (1:1-0-0). I’d be lying if I didn’t say there’s part of me that thinks she could put in a cheeky run.
